Wine Bloggers Conference (part 3): Rias Baixas

Wine Bloggers Conference (part 3): Rias Baixas

One of the wine tasting sessions exploring a wine region outside of the U.S. was Rias Baixas at the 2017 Wine Bloggers Conference in Santa Rosa.

The tasting session consisted of blends of Albarino, which comprises 90% of wine produced in Rias Baixas.   Located on the coast of Galicia, Spain, there are more than 6,500 wine growers, with 9,000 acres of vineyards.

Here are additional interesting facts about the region:

  • Galicia was settled by the Celts in the 11th Century so the region retains the influence of the Irish as seen in architecture and bagpipes.
  • Galicia is well known for its seafood.  Recipes for seafood and other pairings with Albarino can be found here.
  • Over half of the wine growers in this region are women.

Ready for a tasting of Albarino?  Total Wine, Wine.com and the Spanish Table are a few options.  Cheers!
