Wine Bloggers Conference (part 2): El Dorado wine region & nostalgia

Wine Bloggers Conference (part 2): El Dorado wine region & nostalgia

Earlier this year, a favorite friend of mine and I took a day trip to the El Dorado wine region.  It was my first trip to  Apple Hill and I immediately fell under its magical spell.

During the main day of the Wine Bloggers Conference, our lunch included a tasting of El Dorado wines.

Winery representatives visited each table and poured wine for attendees while providing information regarding their wines and vineyards.

I remember to this day the first winery my friend and I visited together was Madrona Vineyards.  When the winery owner brought over a bottle of Malbec, a wave of nostalgia washed over me.  I recollected the beautiful vineyard and the music playing that day during my first visit.

I'm fascinated by how wine has the ability to trigger memories, flavors, a series of moments to transport a person back in time.  What's even better is to have special people in our lives accompanying us to create beautiful memories.

This brings me back to some great writing in the movie, Sideways.   Maya is definitely my favorite character and the way she describes why she's "into" wine is just perfection:

"I like to think about the life of wine....How it's a living thing.  I like to think about what was going on the year the grapes were growing; how the sun was shining; if it rained.  I like to think about all the people who tended and picked the grapes...I like how wine continues to evolve..."

It's alive, it's about people, it's about nature...what more is there?
